Abstract

Anthony Graves was awarded the 2009 Community Service Award by the University of Denver's Office of Alumni Relations at the University of Denver's Founders Day celebration in Denver, Colorado, on March 5, 2009. Craig Harrison (BSBA '03), won the Ammi Hyde Award for Recent Graduate Achievement in Denver, Colorado, in March, 2009. Recipients of this award, first presented in 1993, must have earned a DU undergraduate degree in the previous 10 years and demonstrated professional achievement. Harrison has launched several successful companies in the last five years, including US Capital. Harrison managed more than $10 million in investments for the company before selling it in June 2008.

Abstract

Helen Davis (EdD ’61) received the University of Denver Professional Achievement Award in Denver, Colorado, on March 5, 2009 on Founders Day. The award was first given in 1973. A critically acclaimed artist, Davis headed the Colorado Women’s College art department from 1962–71, ran the Boulder Valley School District art program from 1971–76 and helped develop the Boulder Arts Commission.

Louise Atkinson (MBA ’79) received the Randolph P. McDonough Award for Service to Alumni at the University of Denver's Founder's Day awards March 5, 2009. The award is named for Randolph McDonough, DU alumni director from 1934–63; it was first presented in 1968. Atkinson’s many DU volunteer activities have included serving on the Alumni Association Board of Directors, chairing Founders Day and raising funds to purchase pianos for the Lamont School of Music.

Timber Dick was posthumously presented with the Distinguished Service to the University Award in Denver, Colorado on March 5. 2009 at Founders Day 2009. Dick was Director of Marketing and Recruitment for the School of Engineering and Computer Science from November 2003 until his death in April 2008. Dick’s wife, Annette Tilleman-Dick, accepted the award on his behalf.

Former Ambassador Cindy Courville (MA ’80, PhD ’88) received the Professional Achievement Award, first awarded in 1973. Courville served as the first U.S. Ambassador to the African Union from 2006–2008. Prior to her appointment, Courville served as special assistant to President George W. Bush and senior director for African Affairs at the National Security Council.
